the pisa griffin

March 24, 2022

The Pisa Griffin is a 3-foot bronze sculpture from the 12th century. A technology lab in Pisa has made a 3D model of the griffin (http://vcg.isti.cnr.it/europeana/pisa_griffin/landing/pisa_griffin.html) and captured every tiny detail in the bronze. I would like to go back to aluminum plate lithography and make lithographs, with an image size around 6x6 inches. I would use liquid touche and crayon, and transfer fine details with carbon paper. I have used these mediums for my past aluminum plate lithographs, but the values printed very differently than I expected, and I want to improve that. I would be referencing the 3D model and pictures of the griffin to capture as many details as possible.
